Liz Fisher is Professor of Environmental Law at the Faculty of Law, Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford. Her research explores legal reasoning frameworks in public administration and environmental governance, with expertise spanning administrative constitutionalism, risk regulation, and EU environmental law.
Major research areas include:
- Administrative competence and regulatory governance
- Climate change law and public law frameworks
- Interplay between science, expertise and legal decision-making
- Environmental law scholarship methodologies
- Precautionary principle implementation
Her award-winning publications include 'Administrative Competence: Reimagining Administrative Law' (co-winner of ABA Scholarship Award 2021) and 'Risk Regulation and Administrative Constitutionalism' (winner of SLS Peter Birks Prize 2008). Fisher currently serves as General Editor of the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies and recently completed a decade as General Editor of the Journal of Environmental Law.
Her Leverhulme-funded project (2022-25) investigates legal imagination in environmental law, examining how legal concepts shape responses to ecological challenges. Fisher has held leadership roles including Vice Dean of the Law Faculty and teaches administrative law, EU law, and environmental law.
