Professor Liz Breen is Professor of Health Service Operations at the University of Bradford's School of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences. She served as Director of the Digital Health Enterprise Zone (2021-2025), managing facilities that hosted COVID-19 vaccine trials. Her career includes prior positions at the University of Manchester and NHS supply chain management.
Her research specializes in end-to-end healthcare supply chains with emphasis on pharmaceutical logistics, sustainability, medicines optimization, digital innovation, and risk management. She has extensively analyzed the UK COVID-19 vaccine supply chain and contributes to public discourse through media engagements and articles in The Conversation.
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a focus on pharmaceutical supply chain resilience during crises, person-centered deprescribing models for frail elderly, cultural dimensions of caregiving, and operational improvements in primary care. Her work combines empirical analysis of systemic vulnerabilities with practical interventions for medication safety and healthcare efficiency.
As co-lead of the ISCOMAT study (NIHR) and Deputy Theme Lead for the Safe Use of Medicines at the Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Translational Research Centre, she advances patient safety research. She teaches healthcare operations, pharmaceutical supply chain management, and research methods.
