Lisabeth Scalzi, MD, MS is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Department of Medicine, and Department of Public Health Sciences at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. She serves as Chief of the Division of Rheumatology and has maintained an active research and clinical career since at least 1984.
Dr. Scalzi's primary research focus is on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with specific expertise in the epidemiology and mechanisms of subclinical atherosclerosis in SLE patients. She has created a comprehensive database of SLE patients from both Ohio and central Pennsylvania. Her research extends to using social media to improve self-management and quality of life for SLE patients. She also has significant expertise in childhood arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong trajectory of research productivity, with substantial output in 2021-2024. Her work focuses on pediatric and adult rheumatology, with particular attention to systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and related conditions. She frequently collaborates through the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) and other large research networks.
