Lisa Whittingham (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Disability Studies at Brock University. She holds a PhD in Child and Youth Studies and MA in Applied Disability Studies from Brock University. Her research focuses on disability and the law, particularly examining interactions between individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and the criminal justice system, crisis response strategies for justice professionals, and socio-cultural constructions of vulnerability.
Dr. Whittingham has over 15 years of clinical experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in criminal justice, forensic, and mental health systems. She is a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in Ontario. Her work emphasizes cross-sectoral collaboration and inclusive research methodologies.
Research interests include disability studies, policing studies, qualitative research, and media analysis of disability narratives. She volunteers as an editor for the Journal on Developmental Disabilities and serves on the John Howard Society’s Research Ethics Board.
Her academic contributions span criminal justice policy analysis, forensic service provision models, and telehealth applications for FASD diagnosis. Recent publications address data-driven insights into disability representation in correctional facilities and forensic mental health systems.
