Lisa Taylor is the Rogers Chair in Journalism and a Professor at the University of King's College's School of Journalism. She transitioned from a journalism career at CBC to legal practice (JD and LLM from Dalhousie) before returning to academia. Her research bridges law and journalism, focusing on press freedom and media policy.
Education: BPR (Mount Saint Vincent), JD (Dalhousie), LLM (Dalhousie). Previously held tenured roles at Toronto Metropolitan University as undergraduate program director and associate chair.
Research: Leads the Canadian Worlds of Journalism Study, analyzing global journalism trends. Authored/co-edited key works like The Unfulfilled Promise of Press Freedom in Canada (U Toronto Press). Her work on criminal defamation was shortlisted for the Stonecipher Award.
Teaching: Award-winning educator with five major teaching accolades, including student-voted 'A Prof Who Made a Mark'. Currently teaches courses like Journalism & Society, Ethics & Law for Journalists, and Professional Journalism Environment.
