Lisa Shantz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell and Biological Systems at Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the Penn State Cancer Institute's Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis division. Her research focuses on polyamine metabolism, mTOR pathways, and their roles in skin and bladder carcinogenesis. She leads projects funded by the National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, including studies on epidermal stem cells and chemoprevention strategies.
Research Interests: Shantz’s work centers on understanding ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) regulation, polyamine pharmacology, and the molecular mechanisms driving carcinogenesis. Her studies often integrate cellular signaling pathways (e.g., mTORC2) with environmental stressors like UVB radiation and viral infections.
