Dr. Lisa Overton is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at Middlesex University, based in the Faculty of Business and Law within the Department of Law and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on gender, sexualities, youth experiences, and disaster resilience, with a particular emphasis on intersectional methodologies. She holds a PhD from Middlesex University (2018) and has held prior academic roles at Birkbeck College (2018-2019).
Her key research areas include queer disaster studies, climate adaptation, international development, and qualitative research methods. Current projects include The Queer Dating Project and co-editing works on hazards/disasters and gender in development. She teaches modules like Human Rights and Sustainable Development, and co-leads Ethical Research and Project Management.
Publications span topics such as post-Katrina New Orleans youth experiences, gendered vulnerability in disasters, and extractive industries’ impact on gender dynamics. Overton collaborates with organizations like Oxfam and UNRISD, and serves as a guest expert at University College London.
