Lisa Maier is a Professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen and leads the Laboratory for Microbiome-Host-Interactions at the Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine Tübingen. She is affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence "Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections" and the M3 Research Institute.
- Educated as a biochemist with a doctorate from ETH Zurich (2014)
- Former EMBL Heidelberg postdoc and Emmy Noether Fellow
Research Focus: Investigates drug-microbiome-host interactions, particularly how medicinal drugs (e.g., anticancer/psychotropic) affect gut bacteria and host health. Develops strategies for targeted pathogen decolonization and tools to study underrepresented microbiome members.
Scientific Awards:
- European Research Council Starting Grant (2022)
- German Research Foundation Emmy Noether Program funding (2019)
Methodology: Combines microbiology-driven bottom-up approaches, cultivation-based studies, and interdisciplinary collaborations with clinicians. Works on microbial resistance mechanisms and drug toxicity/efficacy impacts.
