Lisa Liberty is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special and Early Education at Northern Illinois University's College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Washington, an M.A. in Special Education from Chapman University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Chapman University. Her research focuses on evidence-based practices for students with emotional/behavioral disorders and autism, co-teaching strategies in inclusive classrooms, and professional development for special education teachers.

Her work emphasizes literacy coaching, self-regulation strategies for students with disabilities, and improving teacher training programs. She has collaborated on federally funded grants like the UW Teacher Renewal Project and provides training for special education teachers on interventions for behavioral disabilities. Her teaching includes courses on instructional methods for students with mild disabilities and co-teaching practices.
Advising & Grants: Supervised teacher candidates in implementing evidence-based practices and contributed to the UW Teacher Renewal Project grant. Her research team has developed strategies for self-regulated learning and co-teaching equity.
Labs/Teams: Collaborated with Professor Roxanne Hudson's research team on teacher training initiatives and participates in ongoing studies on autism interventions and inclusive education practices.
