Dr. Lisa Downey serves as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Educator Preparation at National Louis University (NLU), overseeing all Undergraduate Majors, Minors, and Concentrations within her department. She holds the academic rank of Associate Professor and has been with NLU since 2011, progressing from roles as an Adjunct Professor and field supervisor to her current leadership position. Her career spans over 30 years in education, with expertise in Early Childhood Education and a focus on writing development for multilingual students.
- Education: B.A. in Child Development (Roosevelt University, 2000); M.Ed. in Early Childhood Leadership & Advocacy (NLU, 2003); Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (NLU, 2019)
Research interests include improving access and equity in education through initiatives like Gateways to Opportunity, enhancing Early Childhood Education quality, and supporting multilingual learners. Her 2019 dissertation explored academic writing development among multilingual college students.
