She holds the position of Professor and serves as Course Coordinator for Biomedical Science degree programs (LS40, IX88, IX96, ID28) and leader of the Ghrelin Research Group. Her research focuses on prostate cancer biology, long non-coding RNAs, and ghrelin's role in disease. She collaborates with Prof Inge Seim and is affiliated with the Australian Prostate Cancer Centre. Additionally, she has significant contributions to teaching excellence, earning awards such as the 2024 QS Wharton Gold Winner Award and 2008 Australian Award for Excellence in University Teaching.
Education: BVSc (Hons I) from University of Queensland, PhD (UQ), MAppSc (Cell & Molecular Biology, QUT). Professional qualifications include certifications in sleep medicine, instructional design, and online teaching from Harvard University and others.
Research Interests: Prof Chopin’s work spans prostate cancer mechanisms, non-coding RNA biology, and ghrelin signaling. She also emphasizes animal welfare, serving 13 years as QUT’s Animal Welfare Officer and 6 years as Deputy Chair of the University Animal Ethics Committee.
Awards: Highlights include national and international teaching accolades, grants from NHMRC, Cancer Council Queensland, ARC, and Movember Foundation. She has also contributed to curriculum development in physiology core concepts through collaborative research projects.
Teaching and Advising: Over 5 years in Higher Degree Research training roles, with a strong focus on educational innovation. Her work includes publications on student digital capabilities and physiology education frameworks. Collaborative efforts with Australian researchers have advanced core concept validation in physiology education.
