Dr Lisa Philp is a Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), leading the Translational Adipokine Research Group within the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre - Queensland (APCRC-Q). Her work focuses on adipokine hormones' role in disease, particularly prostate cancer progression and treatment resistance. She holds a PhD from the University of Adelaide and has over 13 years' experience in animal modeling and drug development.
Key research areas include:
- Adipokine signaling pathways in cancer and metabolic disorders
- Preclinical development of targeted therapeutics
- Hyperinflammation mechanisms in respiratory diseases
Awards include a US$853,896 Department of Defense grant (2020-2023) and AU$150,000 Advance Queensland Fellowship for her work on COVID-19 treatments. She collaborates with biotech firms and clinical partners globally, having secured over AUD $9.5M in competitive grants.
Her projects include:
- Restoring adiponectin signaling to halt tumor progression
- Targeting leptin to combat treatment resistance
- Developing therapies for acute respiratory distress syndrome
Dr Philp supervises 12+ students annually and chairs the TRI Cancer Seminar Series. Her industry partnerships span 6+ years, advancing 6 therapeutics from preclinical to Phase II/III trials.
