Dr Lisa Burrows is an Associate Lecturer in Nursing (Mental Health) at the University of Plymouth's School of Nursing and Midwifery (Faculty of Health). She specializes in dementia care, with clinical experience across community, long-term care, NHS, and private sector settings, including roles in acute in-patient units, recovery services, and dementia-focused research. Her PhD, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), investigated the efficacy of memory cafes for people with dementia and their carers using a realist approach, inspired by her co-creation of a memory cafe in Cornwall.
- Education: PhD in Dementia Care (PenCLAHRC/PenARC, 2020) as part of the Research Capacity in Dementia Care Programme (RCDCP).
Her research focuses on dementia care interventions, mental health in older adults, and healthcare communication. She teaches modules on mental health, dementia, pharmacology, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Key contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Dr Burrows has held roles in Cornwall and New Zealand, including six months in an acute in-patient unit in the South Island. She advocates for patient-centered dementia care through innovative community initiatives like memory cafes.
