Prof. Lisa Bunting is a Professor at Queen's University Belfast's School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, Department of Sociology and Social Work. She has been accepting PhD students since 2004 and leads research on child welfare, maltreatment, and criminal justice policy. Her work focuses on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma-informed practice, and policy analysis across the UK.
Research Interests: Child welfare systems, impact of childhood adversity, criminal justice responses to child victims, and UK child protection policies. Key projects include studies on trauma-informed care, deprivation's role in child welfare interventions, and Northern Ireland's mental health policies for children.
Her research employs mixed methods (quantitative, qualitative, systematic reviews) and has been funded by the Nuffield Foundation, ESRC, and local government. Notable contributions include the Northern Ireland ACEs Study and evaluations of therapeutic care frameworks.
She has received a Team Performance Award (STAR Scheme 2021) and a pedagogical nomination. Her work influences policy, such as reforms in child safeguarding and witness support systems.
