Linsay M. Cramer is an Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Communication, Media, & Culture at Coastal Carolina University. Her research focuses on critical rhetorical analysis of race, whiteness, and masculinity in popular and sports media. She holds a Ph.D. in Media & Communication from Bowling Green State University (2017), an M.A. in Communication Studies from Western Michigan University (2008), and a B.A. in Organizational Communication & Comparative Religion from the same institution (2006).
Her research interests include rhetorical criticism, critical intercultural communication, whiteness studies, and media representation. Notable works examine discourses around race in Disney films, sports media, and television series like The Big Bang Theory. She has received awards such as the 2021 Emerging Scholar Award from the National Communication Association and the 2020 Top Faculty Paper Award.
Dr. Cramer teaches courses on communication research methods, intercultural communication, and media literacy. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical pedagogy, emphasizing critical engagement with media narratives and cultural discourse. She is affiliated with Coastal Carolina’s Women’s and Gender Studies and Graduate Studies programs.
Her recent articles explore themes like post-feminism in documentaries, racial representation in children’s media, and athlete activism in professional sports. These studies consistently interrogate how media constructs and challenges racialized and gendered power structures.
