Dr. Lindsay Macnaughton is a Lecturer in History of Art at the University of Buckingham, part of the Faculty of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from Durham University (2021), funded by the AHRC, and completed her MSt in French at Oxford. Her research focuses on 18th- and 19th-century France, with expertise in decorative arts, historic interiors, and the history of collecting. She directs the MA in Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors and welcomes PhD students in her research areas.
Her academic affiliations include roles as a Trustee of the Society for the History of Collecting and committee member of the British and Irish Furniture Makers Online (BIFMO). She has organized international conferences, such as 'Boiseries: Decoration and Migration' (2023) and 'Making a Case for Cases' (2020). Her work intersects with museums and heritage, including curatorial placements at the Louvre and The Bowes Museum.
Dr. Macnaughton’s publications explore topics like French royal furniture, Napoleon-era craftsmanship, and the social dimensions of collecting. She actively participates in academic networks like the French Porcelain Society and the Furniture History Society, contributing to interdisciplinary research on material culture and historical consciousness.
