معرفی
Linda Hazell is a full-time Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences, Charles Sturt University (CSU), Port Macquarie campus, appointed in 2019. She teaches physiology and biomedical sciences to allied health, paramedic, medical imaging, and nursing students, and has been involved with CSU and the University of Newcastle since 2008.
Her educational background includes:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Biomedical Science), University of Sydney, 1997
- Graduate Certificate in Adult Education and Training, University of Technology Sydney, 1998
- Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, North Coast Institute of TAFE, 2005
- Graduate Certificate in Mathematics, Charles Sturt University, 2008
- Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, Charles Sturt University, 2022
- Bachelor of Science with Honours (Biochemistry), University of New South Wales, 1991
Dr Hazell's research centers on non-invasive biochemical and physiological measures of stress and associated molecular damage, particularly allostatic load, which may predict adverse health outcomes in rural settings. She also explores blended and online learning methods to enhance student success, especially for disadvantaged learners. Her earlier work focused on hypochlorite-mediated oxidation in human atherosclerosis, a field where she made significant contributions.
Her publication record shows a transition from cardiovascular biochemistry (1990s-2000s) to stress physiology and educational technology (2020s). The early work established foundational knowledge on hypochlorite-oxidized LDL in atherosclerosis, while recent publications address occupational stress in paramedics and innovative online teaching platforms like Discord.
Dr Hazell has received recognition for her teaching and service:
- Excellence Award: Successful Graduates Highly Commended (2021)
- Teaching Academy - 2023 Change One Thing Award (2023)
She actively mentors students through her teaching roles and develops computer-assisted learning tools. Dr Hazell is a member of the Australian Society for Medical Research and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, including the development of the Discord Platform for peer-to-peer learning.
