Linda Benoit serves as a Music Teaching Artist for Violin and Viola within Simpson College's Department of Music, where she instructs the String Methods course. She maintains active performance roles as principal violist of the Simpson College Community Orchestra (also serving as strings personnel manager), a member of the Des Moines Symphony, and co-founder of the Vivo Chamber Players.
Her educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Music from Capital University's Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio, with advanced professional development at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, England) and graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
Ms. Benoit specializes in integrated string pedagogy methodologies, having pioneered programs combining Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Suzuki techniques across multiple institutions. Her research interests encompass developmental music education frameworks, youth orchestra conducting, and cross-cultural teaching applications, evidenced by her establishment of preparatory schools and teacher certification programs.
She currently maintains a comprehensive private studio serving students of all ages while continuing her institutional teaching at Simpson College, following decades of prior studio instruction in Ithaca, Manchester, Austin, and Columbus.
Professional affiliations include ongoing membership in the Swan Quartet and Vivo Chamber Players, with recent retirement from the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra after twenty years of service.
