Lidia Jerkiewicz is a Germanist and literary scholar specializing in Jewish literature and culture from the 19th to 20th centuries. She holds a PhD in Judaic Studies from the University of Wrocław, where she authored a dissertation on the “Jewish Question” in the Kingdom of Poland (1815–1830) under Prof. Marcin Wodziński. She has served as an academic secretary for the journal Studia Judaica and coordinated scientific/cultural projects at the Jewish Studies Institute in Wrocław (2007–2016). Since 2016, she collaborates on research projects like Jewish Wrocław: People – Places – Events and translates for the Canon of Memoir Literature of Polish Jews (National Heritage module).
Her research focuses on women’s roles in Jewish communities, modernization, and religious missions. She has presented at conferences on topics including Abbé Luigi Chiarini’s reform projects and the cultural significance of zogerkes (women’s spiritual guides).
Key contributions include studies on Lower Silesia’s Jewish post-WWII settlement, reviews of scholarly works, and translations of historical and religious texts.
