Liam Swiss is Professor and Department Head in the Department of Sociology at Acadia University, currently serving as President of the Canadian Sociological Association (2024-2025). He holds a BA Hon from the University of Calgary, MA from Carleton University, and PhD from McGill University. His office is located in BAC 309, Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Research focuses on two primary concentrations: 1) foreign aid as a transnational development process, and 2) gender/political power dynamics in developing nations. Current SSHRC-funded projects examine Canadian foreign aid's relationship with migrant remittance behaviors and global norm diffusion through development finance. Methodologically specializes in quantitative approaches to international development.
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on foreign aid efficacy, feminist foreign policy, and human rights impacts. Article themes cluster around policy implementation analysis, gender mainstreaming challenges, and institutional influences on aid distribution. Teaching includes courses on Sociological Methodology and Social Data Analysis.
