Wendy McKeen is an Associate Professor at York University's School of Social Work within the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Her office is located in the Ross Building, and she maintains an interdisciplinary research profile.
Education:
- PhD in Sociology from Carleton University (1998)
- MA in Sociology from Carleton University (1991)
- MSW from Carleton University (1984)
- BA in Sociology and Law from Carleton University (1977)
Research Focus: Dr. McKeen's scholarship examines Canadian social policy through integrative frameworks combining political economy, political sociology, and feminist theory. She investigates how state policies perpetuate gender, class, and racial inequalities; analyzes welfare state transformations; and documents feminist engagement in policy debates. Her award-winning book explored women's movement advocacy in family/child benefit reforms.
Awards & Recognition:
- 2004 Canadian Women's Studies Association Book Award for Money in Their Own Name: The Feminist Voice in Poverty Debate in Canada, 1970-1995
Professional Service: Dr. McKeen contributes to academic discourse as a long-time editorial board member of the Canadian Review of Social Policy and has served on adjudication committees for scholarly awards and policy initiatives, including the Research Advisory Committee for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (Nova Scotia) and Status of Women Canada's Women in Public Policy Initiative.
