Naomi Lightman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on migration, care work, gender inequality, and critical social policy. She holds a PhD in Sociology of Education from OISE/University of Toronto.
Her work examines migrant and racialized women’s labor in low-wage care sectors, intersections of immigration policies with transnational identities, and pandemic impacts on care workers. Supported by over $215,000 in grants, her current SSHRC Insight Grant project investigates immigrant care workers’ livelihoods post-pandemic.
Lightman collaborates with organizations like the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association and teaches courses on quantitative analysis and social policy. She actively serves on committees for the Canadian Sociological Association, the Carework Network, and the Parkland Institute.
