Sonia Ben Soltane is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Social Sciences. Her work focuses on transnational migration, gendered aspects of immigration, and the intersectional experiences of racialized migrant women in Canada and France. She holds a PhD in Social Work from McGill University (2019), a Master's in Urban Planning from ENAU (2004), and advanced studies in Legal Theory from Aix-Marseille University (2004).
Her research explores migrant integration policies, care work dynamics, and systemic racism affecting immigrant communities. She has contributed to studies on Quebec's settlement programs, housing insecurity among migrant women, and labor exploitation in temp agencies. Key affiliations include the Collective for Migration and Racism Research (COMIR), the GReFoPS health/social work training group, and the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association (French-language section).
Teaching responsibilities include courses on intercultural intervention (SVS 3500), community-based research (SVS 4505), and advanced social work theory (SVS 7102). She currently supervises Master's candidate Thamara Labossière. Her fieldwork has included studies in Montreal, Toronto, and France, examining urban spaces and migrant experiences.
Notable publications analyze Quebec's Law 21 through segregation frameworks, Maghrebi women's domestic labor as integration mechanism, and transportation challenges for temp agency workers. Media engagements include discussions on migrant carework exploitation and feminist reclamation of invisible labor.
