Liam Mayes is a Lecturer in the School of Humanities at Rice University, affiliated with the interdisciplinary programs of Politics, Law and Social Thought (PLST) and Cinema and Media Studies (CMST). He concurrently serves as Assistant Director of the Center for Transcultural Studies (Chicago and New York). His research focuses on poverty, democracy, and social movements, with a current book project examining the cultural and political shifts in understanding inequality post-World War II. He has organized over 50 conferences globally and taught interdisciplinary courses at institutions like the Central European University in Budapest.
- Education: PhD in Rhetoric and Public Culture (Northwestern University, 2020), M.A. in Communication Studies (McGill University, 2014), B.A. in Women's Studies and History (McGill University, 2010).
His work bridges media studies and political theory, analyzing modern protests such as the 2022 Freedom Convoy in Canada through a global lens. Recent publications emphasize critical theory frameworks to interrogate democratic structures and inequality.
