Carolina Mayes is a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the School of Social and Political Science and the Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (STIS) department. She works on Lukas Engelmann's ERC-funded project 'The Epidemiological Revolution,' exploring the history and contemporary impact of epidemiological reasoning. Her research spans Science and Technology Studies, Public Health, and Sociological Theory.
Mayes completed her PhD in Sociology and Science Studies at the University of California, San Diego, focusing on genetic epidemiology and precision health initiatives like Geisinger Health's MyCode and NIH's All of Us program. She investigates how scientific expertise interacts with social life and public participation.
