Lewis Warsh is an Associate Professor of English and Director of the M.F.A. Program in Creative Writing at Long Island University (LIU). He has been affiliated with LIU since 1984, initially as an adjunct instructor before achieving his current rank. Warsh holds a B.A. and M.A. from City College of New York, CUNY. His career spans over five decades, with significant contributions to poetry, fiction, and literary editing.

His research interests focus on 19th and 20th-century American and European literature, with a practice-based emphasis on creative writing and editorial work. Warsh co-founded Angel Hair Magazine and Books (1966–1975) and has led United Artists Books since 1975. He has contributed to literary magazines like The World and Zen Monster, and his poetry appears in The Best American Poetry series.
Warsh’s publications include six major works since 1998, blending poetry, fiction, and autobiography. His 2004 double CD of a live reading of The Origin of the World exemplifies his exploration of interdisciplinary art.
