Cynthia Zarin is a Senior Lecturer in English and Writing Concentration Coordinator at Yale University. She is renowned for her contributions to poetry, children’s literature, and literary journalism. Her works include five poetry collections, five children’s books, and a critically acclaimed essay collection, An Enlarged Heart: A Personal History.
Zarin’s academic roles include teaching undergraduate courses such as Daily Themes, Writing the Contemporary Essay, and Introduction to Poetry. She has received prestigious awards including the Guggenheim Fellowship, NEA Literature Award, and Los Angeles Times Book Award for Poetry. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Gourmet Magazine, where she was a contributing editor.
She is an Artist-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and a Resident Writer for BalletCollective, with ballet adaptations of her poems performed in New York. Her creative work bridges literary and performative arts, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to storytelling.
