Les Cwynar

Les Cwynar is a Professor in Biology at the University of New Brunswick specializing in paleoecology and Quaternary environmental change. His research reconstructs past climates using pollen, plant macrofossils, and chironomid analyses with focus on lateglacial transitions and ecosystem tipping points.

Research examines Beringian paleoenvironments, treeline fluctuations, and fire history reconstructions. Fieldwork spans Yukon territories and Atlantic Canada, developing paleohydrological models through multi-proxy lake sediment analysis. Served as President of Canadian Quaternary Association and contributed to Holocene epoch subdivision definitions.
