Dr. Leonieke Bolderman is an Assistant Professor in Geographies of Media and Culture at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Spatial Sciences and the Department of Cultural Geography. She holds roles as Chair of the Research Ethics Committee and is a member of the Young Academy Groningen. Her research focuses on music tourism, urban and regional development, and qualitative methods, with notable works including the monograph Contemporary Music Tourism: A Theory of Musical Topophilia (2020) and co-edited collections like Locating Imagination in Popular Culture (2021).
Her research explores how music, heritage, and tourism shape urban spaces and identities. Recent studies include analyses of Detroit’s musical urban imaginary, post-disaster tourism in Beirut, and hybridity in sacred heritage site place-making. She actively engages with media, contributing insights on music tourism trends and cultural justice.
