Leonie Mayer

Leonie Mayer is a Research Fellow at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Infection Research and Vaccine Development. Her work focuses on vaccinology, infectious diseases, and immunology. She holds a Dr. rer. nat. (Doctor of Natural Sciences) and a Master of Science in Vaccinology. Her research emphasizes vaccine immunogenicity, including studies on malaria, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. Key projects include analyzing immune responses to viral and bacterial pathogens, evaluating vaccine efficacy in diverse populations, and investigating cellular immunity mechanisms in immunocompromised patients.

Her recent publications highlight advancements in MVA-based vaccines, mRNA vaccine transcriptome profiling, and T-cell epitope identification for coronaviruses. Mayer contributes to translational research bridging basic science and clinical applications, particularly in emerging infectious diseases. She is based at the UKE’s Campus Forschung I, collaborating within the Infection Research and Vaccine Development Center.
