Prof. Dr. Marylyn M. Addo is a Full Professor of Medicine/Infectious Diseases and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the University of Hamburg's Faculty of Medicine. She also directs the Institute for Infection Research and Vaccine Development and leads the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1648 on Emerging Viruses. Her roles include Director of the Bernhard-Nocht Institute's Clinical Immunology division and prior positions at Harvard Medical School and the Ragon Institute.
Education: MD (1996) and PhD (1998) from University of Bonn, Master's in Applied Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases (1999) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Postdoctoral research at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School followed by roles in HIV immunology and vaccine development.
Research focuses on viral pathogenesis, vaccine development (MERS-CoV, Ebola, rabies), and emerging infections. Her work bridges clinical and laboratory research, including studies on immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 variants, post-COVID syndrome, and global health challenges like vector-borne diseases.
Labs/Teams: Leads research groups at UKE and Bernhard-Nocht Institute, collaborating on projects like the MVA-MERS-S vaccine trials and DFG CRC 1648's viral-host interaction studies.
