Carlota Dobaño

Carlota Dobaño is a Research Professor at ISGlobal, where she heads the Malaria Immunology Group and directs the Core Facility on Immune Response and Biomarkers. She also collaborates with the Manhiça Health Research Centre in Mozambique.

Her research focuses on naturally-acquired and experimental immunity to malaria, including correlates of protection for malaria vaccines, immune responses in infants and pregnant women, and biomarkers of disease pathogenesis. She also investigates the impact of malaria control tools and co-infections on immune system development, as well as COVID-19 immune responses in healthcare workers.

Recent publications highlight her work in transcriptomics and systems biology to identify protective signatures in malaria vaccines (2024), antibody kinetics after mRNA vaccines for SARS-CoV-2 (2022), and transcriptional correlates of vaccine efficacy (2020). These studies span immunology, vaccinology, and infectious diseases.
