Leon Bremer is a Researcher and Postdoc at the Department of Spatial Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, within the School of Business and Economics. His work focuses on environment-related innovation, energy efficiency, and water consumption, employing econometric methods with patent data, firm-level surveys, and household data. He holds an MPhil from Tinbergen Institute and an MSc from Tilburg University.

Research Interests: Bremer examines drivers of innovation and technology adoption through lenses like induced innovation, the EU ETS, and behavioral changes in resource use. His studies address the energy efficiency paradox, pollution haven hypothesis, and sustainability challenges. Recent work includes analyzing emissions trading impacts and water scarcity solutions.
Teaching & Supervision: Since 2019, he has tutored courses like Environmental and Resource Economics (MSc STREEM) and supervised master’s theses in STREEM and Economics programs.
Projects: Active in Horizon Europe initiatives such as REsilienT water governance under climate change within the WEFE Nexus, addressing water scarcity and policy frameworks. His research contributes to UN SDGs related to climate action and sustainable resource management.
