Erik Ansink is an Associate Professor at the Department of Spatial Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is also a research fellow at Tinbergen Institute, a faculty member at Amsterdam University College, and editor-in-chief of Water Resources & Economics. His research focuses on coalitions, conflict, and institutions in water, nature, and climate management, employing game theory, political economy, and experimental economics methods.
He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to water, climate, and environmental sustainability. His work addresses challenges such as water scarcity, environmental agreements, and public goods provision. Ansink has authored over 60 publications and leads projects like the Horizon Europe-funded REsilienT water governance under climate change.
Recent research highlights include analyses of California’s water market dynamics, crowdfunding for conservation, and international environmental agreements. He teaches courses on environmental policy, sustainability, and economics, and serves on editorial boards for journals like Cambridge Prisms: Water.
