Gerard van der Meijden is an Associate Professor of Environmental and Resource Economics at the Department of Spatial Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is affiliated with the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute and Tinbergen Institute. With a Research Master's (cum laude) and PhD from Tilburg University, his expertise spans environmental economics, growth theory, sustainability, and dynamic macroeconomics.
He teaches BSc/MSc courses on environmental economics, economic growth, and sustainability. His research focuses on climate policy, oligopoly dynamics, and renewable/non-renewable resource management. Notable projects include studies on critical minerals for clean energy transitions and global asylum governance.
Recent work addresses carbon capture utilization/storage, oligopoly impacts on green paradox effects, and energy transition modeling. He has supervised three PhD theses and contributed to ERC-funded climate research initiatives.
