Dr. Lena Simic is a Reader in Drama at Edge Hill University, based in Liverpool, UK. Her research focuses on contemporary performance practice, political performance, and climate crisis-related arts. She co-led the AHRC-funded Performance and the Maternal project (2019–2022), resulting in publications like Maternal Performance: Feminist Relations (2021) and co-edited volumes on maternal performance. Her work integrates 'embodied practice' and 'practice as research' methodologies.
Research interests include feminist theatre, art activism, and maternal performance. She has published seven artist books, including Thirties (2022) and The Mums and Babies Ensemble (2015). Collaborations include Climate Change Theatre Action (2019) via her play Three Conversations with her sons. She contributes to journals like Performance Research and Feminist Review.
Her articles frequently intersect ecology, maternal studies, and social justice. Grants include AHRC funding for maternal performance studies.
