Lena Martinsson is a Professor of Gender Studies and Head of the Department of Cultural Sciences at the University of Gothenburg. Her work focuses on transnational movements related to gender, sexuality, racism, and digital technologies. Currently, she leads three major research projects: TecnAct: Global Transformations (VR-funded), examining digital technologies and civil society; Anti-genderism (VR-funded), analyzing Nordic anti-gender movements; and School in Society, exploring political subjectivity in educational contexts.
Her research integrates interdisciplinary perspectives, emphasizing how digital spaces reshape activism and how educational systems mediate political agency. She collaborates with institutions like Lund University, Uppsala University, and Linköping University, fostering cross-institutional and international partnerships. Her publications span academic journals and media outlets, addressing themes such as anti-gender mobilization, teacher authority, and climate crisis discourse.
Dr. Martinsson advocates for academic freedom and gender equality, often engaging in public debates on issues like student rights and institutional policies. Her work challenges Swedish exceptionalism narratives and highlights systemic inequalities in Nordic societies.
