Dr. Len J.A. Lipman is an Associate Professor at the Division of Veterinary Public Health, part of the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) at Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He has held leadership roles since 2003, including Head of Division (since 2013) and Education Coordinator for IRAS veterinary courses (since 2010). His work focuses on food safety, zoonoses, and microbiology, with extensive involvement in curriculum development like the One Health minor and Master’s program.

He received the Senior Teacher of the Year award in 2005 for educational excellence.
Recent work demonstrates increasing application of AI (deep learning) and imaging technologies (CT scanning) in animal health monitoring, alongside policy-focused studies on slaughterhouse safety and antimicrobial use. Current projects address modernizing meat inspection and balancing farm economics with animal welfare standards.
