Dr. Len Collin is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria University’s Design Arts and Creative Industries school. His research focuses on using film as a tool for social change, particularly in disability advocacy and queer perspectives. He directed the award-winning film Sanctuary (2017), which centered actors with disabilities, and the documentary Altered Thinking (2020). Currently, he is developing Iron Harvest, exploring male sexuality from a queer angle. Collin holds an MA and has been recognized with the Best Director award at the Newport Beach International Film Festival (2017).
Education: MA (Awarded June 2013).
Research interests include inclusive casting, disability representation in media, and methodologies for authentic storytelling. His work intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and social inclusion.
Key publications include chapters on disability representation in film and collaborative filmmaking with marginalized groups. He actively advises PhD students and collaborates with organizations like Blue Teapot Theatre Company. Current projects emphasize queer narratives and historical perspectives on sexuality.
