Anamarija Horvat

Anamarija Horvat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts at Northumbria University, affiliated with the Design Arts and Creative Industries. She holds a PhD in Media Studies from Northumbria University (2019), alongside MAs in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Zagreb. Her research focuses on queer memory in film/television, LGBTQ representation, and intersectional media studies. She is a co-chair of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies' Queer and Feminist Workgroup.

Research interests include queer memory formations, transgender narratives, and LGBTQ migration. Her monograph Screening Queer Memory pioneered interdisciplinary approaches to LGBTQ historical representation. Recent work explores transnational queer cinema and hybrid identities in media.

Awards include grants from Spanish Ministry of Science (PI), Edinburgh Futures Institute, and others. She organized three international conferences and a film series funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Keynote talks include the 'Go East' Film Festival in Germany (12,000 attendees/year).

Currently leads the 'Queer Memory on the Margins' project (2023-2027), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. She supervises PhD students in media, gender, and queer studies.
