Professor Lee Sang-hyeop is a full professor in the Department of Bioindustry and Resource Engineering at Sejong University, South Korea. He leads the Molecular Genomics Laboratory and focuses on plant biotechnology, molecular breeding, and metabolic engineering for functional crop development.

Research Interests
Professor Lee's research integrates genomics, metabolic engineering, and molecular breeding to enhance crop quality and resilience. His group applies CRISPR/Cas9 and marker-assisted selection to develop broccoli, pepper, and cucumber cultivars enriched with functional compounds such as glucoraphanin and resistant to major pathogens like Podosphaera xanthii and Pseudoperonospora cubensis.
Secondarily, his work addresses post-harvest biology, unravelling the role of STAY-GREEN genes in delaying senescence of broccoli florets, and explores agricultural product supply-chain optimisation to translate laboratory findings into commercial practice.

Recent articles (2020–2025) demonstrate a clear trajectory toward translational plant science: genome-edited glucoraphanin-rich broccoli, marker-assisted powdery-mildew-resistant cucumber, and metabolomic profiling of functional phytochemicals across pepper and sprout germplasm.
