Lee A. Meserve is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on endocrine control in development and aging, with an emphasis on nutritional and environmental influences on endocrine parameters. He holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University.
His research interests include the effects of environmental toxins like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) on neuroendocrine systems, cognitive functions, and developmental processes in rodent models. Key areas of investigation involve thyroid hormone regulation, choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity, and the neurochemical and behavioral consequences of early-life toxin exposure.
Meserve’s publications span environmental toxicology, developmental neurobiology, and endocrinology, with a focus on understanding how PCBs disrupt growth, neurochemical markers, and memory. His work emphasizes translational research linking environmental exposures to long-term health outcomes.
- Selected Awards: Faculty/Student Development Award (2006-2007)
His research is affiliated with the Center for Neuroscience, Mind & Behavior at BGSU, where he contributes to interdisciplinary studies on brain-behavior relationships. His lab explores mechanisms underlying toxin-induced endocrine and neurological disorders, with potential implications for human health.
