Professor Lori T. Raetzman is a faculty member at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, serving as Professor of Molecular & Integrative Physiology and Associate Head of the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology. She also holds roles as Associate Director of the School of MCB PhD Programs and the Toxicology and Environmental Health Training Program. Her research focuses on the role of Notch signaling in pituitary development and associated diseases, including hypopituitarism and tumor formation.
Education: B.A. from Ripon College (1994), Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University (2000), and postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan (2000-2005). She teaches courses in endocrinology and research ethics. Her lab investigates developmental and environmental influences on pituitary function, with a focus on hormonal regulation and endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
Research interests span developmental biology, endocrinology, and neurobiology. Recent work includes studies on environmental toxins like phthalates and polychlorinated biphenyls, as well as genetic models of pituitary malformations linked to human disease. Key collaborations include the Neuroscience Graduate Program and the Institute for Genomic Biology.
Awards include the Sidney Ingbar Distinguished Service Award (2025), LAS Dean’s Distinguished Professorial Scholar (2024), and multiple teaching and mentorship accolades. Her lab’s work has been featured in journals like Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology and Endocrinology.
