Lawrence Stacey

Lawrence Stacey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Vanderbilt University. He is affiliated with the Center for Research on Inequality and Health and core faculty in the LGBTQ+ Policy Lab. His research focuses on health disparities related to gender identity and sexual orientation, utilizing population-based surveys to explore transgender health disadvantages, medical institution inequities, and intersections with early life adversity.

His work has been published in leading journals such as Social Forces, Demography, and Social Science & Medicine. Recent articles analyze demographic differences in gender identity measures, healthcare barriers for transgender populations, and the intergenerational impacts of adverse childhood experiences on family relationships. His methodological innovations include childbearing biographies and vignette experiments to study gender nonconformity.

Lawrence earned his PhD in Sociology from The Ohio State University in 2023, where he was affiliated with the Institute for Population Research. His research spans medical sociology, demography, and LGBTQ+ policy, with a focus on structural determinants of health outcomes and family dynamics.
