Lavelle Porter is a Distinguished Lecturer at Macaulay Honors College, CUNY. He previously held academic roles as Adjunct Professor of English at John Jay College and LaGuardia Community College, and Assistant Professor of English at New York City College of Technology. Dr. Porter holds a B.A. in History from Morehouse College and a Ph.D. in English from the CUNY Graduate Center.

His research focuses on African-American literature, higher education dynamics, science fiction, gender/sexuality studies, and New York City's cultural history. His writing appears in venues like JSTOR Daily and Black Perspectives.
