Lavelle Porter is a Distinguished Lecturer at Macaulay Honors College, CUNY. He previously held academic roles as Adjunct Professor of English at John Jay College and LaGuardia Community College, and Assistant Professor of English at New York City College of Technology. Dr. Porter holds a B.A. in History from Morehouse College and a Ph.D. in English from the CUNY Graduate Center.

His research focuses on African-American literature, higher education dynamics, science fiction, gender/sexuality studies, and New York City's cultural history. He authored The Blackademic Life (2019), examining racial politics in academic fiction, and is completing a book on Samuel R. Delany for the University of Illinois Press. His writing appears in venues like JSTOR Daily and Black Perspectives.
Publications reflect interdisciplinary engagement with literary criticism, social justice themes, and historical analysis. He has served on CLAGS' Board of Directors and leads NYC literary history courses. His work bridges academic writing and public intellectual discourse.
