Laurie Schmeling

Laurie Schmeling is a Lecturer in Theatre at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, teaching courses in theatre history, script analysis, theatre appreciation, and the Broadway musical in American culture. She coordinates the BA Drama program and contributes to the Gender/Sexuality Alliance (2006-2020) and the Players Student Artistic Alliance.

• MA in Theatre History, Literature, and Criticism from Ohio State University
• BA in English from St. John's University (NY)

Her research focuses on American theatre history, particularly Depression-era Broadway musicals, and the intersection of theatre with cultural and social responsibility. She has presented at conferences like ASTR, ATHE, and PCA.

Laurie has served as a production dramaturg for over 30 shows and curated the Out on Screen LGBTQ+ Film Fest (2011-2020). Her work emphasizes equity, inclusivity, and social responsibility in theatre education.
