Heidi L. Nees is an Associate Professor of Theatre in the Department of Theatre and Film at Bowling Green State University’s College of Arts and Sciences. She teaches courses in theatre history, Native American drama, contemporary women playwrights, modern theatre, musical theatre history, and script analysis.

Her research focuses on theatre historiography, Native American drama, and the cultural portrayal of the American frontier in performance. Heidi also co-created the speaker series In the Round with Jenn Stucker (School of Art) to highlight Native American creatives at BGSU.
As a director, she has staged productions such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Crucible, and Children of Eden. She holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from BGSU, an M.A. in Theatre from Illinois State University, and a B.S. in Theatre (Acting) from Ball State University, with prior teaching roles at Miami University and California Polytechnic State University.
