Laurie Heyer is the John T. Kimbrough Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science and Chair of the Data Science Department at Davidson College. She also chairs the Genomics Program and serves as Associate Dean for Data & Computing. Her expertise lies at the intersection of mathematics, biology, and data science, with a focus on bioinformatics and genomics education.

As co-author of the first undergraduate genomics textbook Discovering Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics and the innovative Integrating Concepts in Biology, Heyer has transformed introductory biology pedagogy by emphasizing data interpretation, active learning, and integration of quantitative reasoning. Her work on the ICB textbook addresses social issues like race-based medicine and genetic diversity through a data-driven lens.
Heyer has received multiple teaching honors and previously served as Director of the Genomics Program and Faculty in Residence at Davidson's Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She also held leadership roles in the Southeastern Section of the MAA.
