Tim Chartier is the Joseph R. Morton Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Davidson College. As an applied mathematician and computer scientist, his work spans data analytics, sports analytics, and numerical linear algebra.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Colorado, Boulder
- M.S. and B.S. in Mathematics from Western Michigan University
Research Interests: Chartier specializes in creating mathematical models for sports analytics and bracketology, applying numerical linear algebra to computer graphics and ranking systems. His work bridges theoretical and applied mathematics, with a focus on real-world problems in data analytics and interdisciplinary education.

Advising & Collaborations: Chartier oversees a team of up to 100 student researchers who provide analytics for Davidson College sports teams. He has collaborated with Google and Pixar on K-12 educational initiatives and served as an expert in media inquiries, including Bloomberg TV, NPR, and The New York Times.
Leadership: Chartier has chaired the MAA Congress, served as Vice President of the MAA, and held leadership roles at the National Museum of Mathematics.
