Laurent Schneider is a Research Director at CNRS and Director of Studies at EHESS, affiliated with the CIHAM laboratory (History, Archaeology, Literature of Medieval Christian and Muslim Worlds) in Lyon. He specializes in the archaeology of territories and landscapes during the early Western Middle Ages (6th-12th centuries), focusing on habitat networks, power structures, and territorial transformations in Mediterranean France.
His research examines comparative archaeology of medieval societies through landscape analysis and settlement patterns. Recent work investigates the evolution of Carolingian rural structures and territorial organization using archaeological evidence.
Schneider obtained his doctorate from the University of Aix-Marseille (1996) and habilitation from François Rabelais University (2013) with a thesis on medieval archaeological research in Mediterranean France. He contributes to the 'Medieval Worlds' master's program at EHESS.
